MUSIC.  In 1973, songwriter and recording artist Timmy Thomas joined virtually the whole world together singing his peace anthem “Why Can’t We Live Together?”  [Thomas, a Grammy Award nominee, would perform his song later - in the 1994 - at the official inauguration event for President Nelson Mandela in South Africa].  Scott Ealy interviewed Timmy Thomas on Scott’s WCRA-AM (1090) talk radio program in 2004.  Left click (or right click and save) here to listen to an mp3 file excerpt from this interview.

MUSIC.  A few years ago, Scott created a remix of “Why Can’t We Live Together?” and had the recording delivered to the former host of the “American Top 40” radio program, Casey Kasem, who was nice enough not only to give the product a listen but also to provide a personal response.  Left click (or right click and save) here for an mp3 file of a portion of a telephone message left by Casey Kasem.

REAL RELIGION.  Scott is a longtime admirer of the Rev. Dr. Michael Louis Pfleger, a Roman Catholic priest from Chicago who has been an effective national advocate against violence, racism and illicit drug use.  At the request of the late Coretta Scott King, Father Pfleger served as the keynote speaker for the national Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday Commemorative Service in 2003.  Before leaving that year for his important speaking engagement in Atlanta, Father Pfleger took the time to assist Scott on a special local radio presentation.  Left click (or right click and save) here to listen to an mp3 file containing part of Father Pfleger’s message to residents of the Effingham area.  [You are invited to learn more about Father Pfleger via the Faith Community of Saint Sabina web site].

ATHLETICS.  Effingham High School graduate Brian Shouse was involved in a heated Major League Baseball pennant race last year as a left-handed relief pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers.  Left click (or right click and save) here to listen to an mp3 file of Brian Shouse crediting some Effingham area residents for playing a major role in his development.  (2003).

WAR.  The late Zona B. Davis was a radio legend in her decades of service-oriented broadcasting on WCRA-AM (1090).  Early on, “Zona B.” provided coverage of the tragic St. Anthony’s Hospital fire in Effingham in 1949.  She also frequently served as a “stringer” providing stories for United Press International and other news operations.  Later in life, “Zona B.” was published regularly as a contributor to Guideposts magazine.  In the mid-1960s, this broadcaster took on what perhaps was one of her greatest works, which she would discuss decades later during her last in depth radio interview (conducted by Scott Ealy).  Left click (or right click and save) here to listen to an mp3 file excerpt of the remarks of Zona B. Davis.

POLITICAL SCOOP.  During his first term in office, Gov. Rod Blagojevich named then State Rep. Chuck Hartke (D) of Teutopolis as his administration’s Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture.  Weeks prior to making the appointment, the Governor all but revealed the news officially during an exclusive personal interview with Scott Ealy on WCRA-AM (1090).  Left click (or right click and save) here to listen to an mp3 file containing an excerpt from this 2003 interview.
